I got the notification of TTP 12.0.4 update. I read the release notes. I initiated the update.
Very unpleasant surprise when the new version launched after the install: "The old reports database is not compatible with this version of TechTool Pro. Would you like to replace the old version with the new one? All of the reports from the old database will be lost."
Do I have any unsaved reports? Don't remember, didn't check. Sometimes I don't save them immediately. What if something needs to be saved?
I clicked cancel. TTP won't run at all until the existing database is wiped out. I had to delete the newly installed version, re-install version 12.0.3 and check for reports. Nothing there - or was there? Not sure whether re-installing 12.0.3 destroyed any reports there might have been. I saved the directory with the reports but comparing file sizes after the 12.0.3 install is inconclusive.
Should I have checked for unsaved reports before initiating the update? Sure. Should I have expected an incompatibility between 12.0.3 and 12.0.4? Not based on the release notes.
I expect better information up front when a minor update doesn't disclose a major change.
