Now, as to the problem...
I'm running TTP 13.02 on a Late 2013 MacPro (MacPro 6,1) under the latest version of Mojave (10.14.6) with all security updates in place. My Boot ROM Version is 427.0.0.0.0, and I am booting from a 2TB internal SSD.
TTP itself is working fine, but I am having issues with the TechTool Protection panel in System Preferences. I want to make some changes to the snapshot-related preferences.
I can click on and open the panel without an issue. If I click on Snapshot Usage, however, the System Preferences app becomes non-responsive and displays the "pinwheel" wait icon for 30-60 seconds. Sometimes it then un-freezes; sometimes I have to Force Quit the System Preferences app. If the app has come out of its freeze, any action within the preference pane -- such as selecting an individual snapshot from the list -- starts the freeze again.
There are two related questions here...
1) If I am already using a high-quality backup program on a regular basis -- Retrospect Desktop, in my case -- what, if any, benefit is gained by enabling the snapshot feature?
Is it simply that the snapshots are generally made more frequently than backups, so that a restoration is slightly more accurate than one from a backup?
Are there other benefits that justify both the use of storage space (4.22 GB for me) and the sometimes noticeable slowdown in both processing and SSD I/O, especially at boot, that occurs when the feature is enabled?
2) If the user stops TechTool Protection from the preference pane, the ability to select a feature for viewing and change its settings is disabled. Shouldn't this be available at all times?
