I recently ran into an issue with my external HDD connected to my iMAC. It started telling me the the disk could not be repaired and that I needed to back up data on it. I have backed up all my data and now I am trying to see if I can figure out the issue with the HDD. I ran the Surface Scan through TechTool Pro 9 and it found no issues. So, I ran the Volume Structures test next and it came back with a Validation error of "Catalog File".
With that said, I am trying to run the Volume Rebuild tool on the external drive and I am getting a message that "Volume Rebuild is not available because the application is currently running from this volume. Use the eDrive for this tool or launch the application from another volume." I did not install TechTool Pro on the external drive, it is on the internal drive so I am not sure why I am getting this message. I have tried to uninstall TechTool Pro and then reboot the Mac with the external drive unplugged. Then I reinstalled and plugged the external drive back in. This didn't seem to help matters. How can I clear this up?
