I am getting constant SMART warnings on a 4-month-old external G-Drive USB hard drive on an iMac late 2015 Retina 5K. Apple and G technology both tell me that SMART doesn't work on external drives...
"Thank you for contacting G-Technology support. SMART feature is not supported on external drives when connected to a Mac computer, in most cases a 3rd party application might produce a false/positive message about SMART errors on an external drive. We recommend consulting with the 3rd party application support for additional information about how SMART testing works."
So I ran a Surface Scan overnight and that failed with 365 bad blocks (no files affected).
Should I ignore the SMART warnings? I have attached screen shots of the SMART warning and the surface scan results.
