resource.frk folder has 50 different ~*.gif files

resource.frk folder has 50 different ~*.gif files say they are not valid image files and need to be deleted. I am not sure what these files do . I called Apple and they where not able to help. I do not want to delete these files to find out later they where necessary.
Can some please help.
