Protection Pane GUI Extreme Input Lag

Using the protection pane GUI is so slow as to be unusable. Every action from opening the pane to clicking a selection or an input box produces a beachball hang for at least 10 seconds but the command eventually sticks.

In addition, the SMART check in the protection pane appears to be polling the HDDs every few seconds rather than the every 4 hrs as indicated in the settings.

My system:

2009 Mac Pro, single CPU, 32GB Ram, Yosemite on SSD, 4 x 4TB internal HDDs,

Protogo Hangs and/or Won't Boot a Completed Disk

Protogo hangs on installation on thumb drives (i have tried 3 of them). I did get it to install on an old 250GB WD Passport with a spinning 540 rpm drive but then it hung halfway through the boot process.

Tried protogo on both '09 Mac Pro and an '08 MacBook Pro under Yosemite.

SMART Check Works Well!

I am pleased that SMART check is working so well. I have about 20 disks including a mixture of startup SSDs and a lot of HDDs connected both externally (via eSata) and internally on a '09 Mac Pro. I also have some of the HDDs formatted under ZFS pools. TTP SMART check has read and reported SMART data on every one of them. I presume you guys are using Smartmontools, right?

I would suggest, however, to provide an option for seeing all of the SMART data.

Anyway, great work on the SMART check.

TTP 8.0.5 - computer Volume missing from Tests and Tools windows

I've been using TechTool since 2008, and it's done superbly until several weeks ago. I'm on an iMac, and both the iMac and TechTool had been fully up-to-date. I was running TTP 8.0.4 just fine, until some time in June. Then suddenly my Volume was missing from both Tests and Tools. I could only run the suite of tests "Run Check Computer" but could not run any TOOLS. I can't create an eDrive, either, because it's saying "No source volume found." I contacted Micromat and had lengthy emails regarding this, but it has not been fixed. Micromat said that TTP can't run Tools on an encrypted disk, and to decrypt the disk and try running TT again. They also guided me through an uninstall and reinstall of the app, but that didn't work. I consulted with an Apple technician for roughly an hour, as well, and my computer should be fine and has been running perfectly fine, otherwise. They said to try Micromat's suggestion, to decrypt my disk. My disk has always been encrypted, but I tried this suggestion. It did not resolve the problem.I haven't changed settings on my computer, in terms of what else might be causing this problem. I don't know what else to do. It seems unwise to pay an additional $40.00 for TTP 9 if I can't be certain that it will resolve the problem. It's so disappointing, given that TTP has been a very useful app all these years.

SMART Check of Solid State Drive failing

I used MM techtool pro 9 to check the "HD" using the SMART Check test - except I have an SSD and it says it is failing reallocation event count. What does that mean since it is not a hard drive? Can SSD memory fail a reallocation event count? It says there is 39% of the space available on a 500GB SSD.

After upgrading from TechTool 8 to Tech Tool 9 I have the problem that I can not use the Directory Backup and the Trash History in the TechTool Protection System Preferences. I am unable to configure this because it is only grey and I can not make a hook there.
Could you anybody please help me? Otherwise I have to return TechToo 9 and work again with TechTool8.

Checkmate's Prefs now set to "Disable Testing"

For no apparent reason, Checkmate (1.1.5) stopped working; the icon now longer appears in the top menu.

I've opened the Checkmate Prefs pane and saw that the "Disable Testing" button was selected, however, I never manually made that selection. I tried to click the "Allow Testing" selection but it reverted to "Disable." In the Test Scheduling window, everything is grayed out and set to default values.

What might I have done to disable Checkmate?

Why can't I easily and intuitively reset the preference to "Allow Testing"?

Thanks.

ProToGo USB Creation Time

I've read a couple of other threads about the time it takes to create a key but the only answer is, it takes between 2-24 hours to create.
Is there a reason it takes so long? Is there nothing that can be done to speed that up? Maybe if we understood what's happening in the background it would make it understandable. As it is now it just seems like the answer is "that's the way it is" but in modern computing, most things that take that long to process seem broken.

i'm a LONG time user so I'm not knocking great software; I just like to understand since I'm the answer man at my 9-5.

Upgrade

I did not upgrade to TTP8 because I felt that I hadn't had TTP7 very long when they decided to come out with TTP8 and charge another upgrade fee. Well now, TTP8 hasn't been out all that long and they have brought out TTP9 and charged another upgrade fee. I can no longer use TTP7 because I upgraded my OS to El Capitan. I guess that's why they came out with TTP8. However, I don't think it's fair to charge another upgrade fee each time a new OS comes out. Why not just put out an update to the current version that works with the new OS? I'll get off of my soap box now.

Checkmate 1.1.4 Seems Stalls

Recently I have noticed that the Checkmate seems to stop it says something to the effect that 'backupd is running.' This says to me that Checkmate stops when Time Machine is active, though I noticed the same message when I powered up my computer this morning, and my backup drive wasn't turned on.

I also encountered this message yesterday, but I was backing up at the time, so it had context.

Can you provide approx times for Partition Map to run for different size drives. I've been running for 19 hours for a 4 TB drive? This seems long to me.

Can anyone tell me the meaning of the colors red, pink, and yellow in the graphic displayed during volume optimization? (Actually I have found the meaning of yellow, but the other two I can only guess at.) Thanks in advance for replies.

Unable to make new eDrive

I wanted to move the location of my eDrive (created with TTP 9.01), so I used the Remove Drive option in the eDrive tool.

I want to create a new eDrive at the new location, but no Source or Destination options are populated in the popups. In addition, the Remove eDrive button is still active. (I've tried re-removing, but this makes no difference.)

how to remove tech tools pro 9 protection large files

$

I recently purchased an upgrade to tech tools pro 9 and turned on tech tools pro protection. don't like the fact that tech tools pro protection is eating up over 50 GB of my limited hard drive space!! simply because I had attached some 5 external hard drives for a couple of days. . I turned it on to take advantage of its features but because it repeatedly (daily?) backs up directory information -and stores it on my Mac! I now have over 50GB of files I don't want and can't figure out how to find them to delete them.
." What size" , a utility that helps me detect and remove large files "sees" these files, but for some reason doesn't allow me to delete them. I have attached a screen shot of what "what size is telling me" - these are all files from external drives I had attached to my macbook pro . I've tried finding a path to where these files might reside in order to manually delete them - but no luck might be - no luck. How do I delete these files?

thanks
john

ps there is no indication in this test editor that thejpg file i attached actually is attached

sensor test - northbridge error

hi,

my macbook 15" mid 2010, it hangs sometimes, so I tested it with techtool 9.

it found one problem:

northbridge (MCP) Vcore 0,28 v failed

it would be great, if techtool would tell more about every sensor and what to do, if the result is failed.

thanks to google I see, that northbridge is the main controller, whicht connects wo GPU, usb, etc..

so there is no easy solution, I have to replace the logic board?

thanks! regards, ferdinand

ProToGo can't partition USB drive.

I keep getting this message:

“An error occurred while trying to partition your device and your device could not be partitioned. Please try again. If the problem persists contact technical support. (98)”

I can't get TTPTG past this. The same 4GB USB thumb drive that I used for TTP8, won't work. A second 16GB USB thumb drive won't work either.

What's up?

SMART Check Error on iMac Fusion Drive

$

Within the last couple days or so, I started getting SMART Check pop-warnings from TechTool Pro indicating my 3 TB Fusion drive was failing. I've attached the report for review. I started a surface scan but had to stop after about 15 hours for performance reasons (though I can run again and let it run until completion if need be). During the time it did run, roughly 140 bad blocks were found. I ran First Aid from Disk Utility but not unsurprisingly, it didn't find any issues. Working under the assumption that what TT is reporting is accurate, what are my options at this point? I'm still within my Applecare warranty (until next March anyhow).

Thanks,

Bill
