Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro late 2013 and my memory test failed
How can I determine if the memory actually is broken or somehow faulty and with memory stick is affected
TTP 9.6.3

I'm running the test on a live system from the same machine

Latest OS x with all updates

Thanks

Dominicus

Surface Scan Fail / crash

I have a 2014 iMac running 10.12.6 and TechTool Pro 10.0.1. My internal 3TB hard drive is not working well. I created an eDrive on an external hard drive and booted from it. Last night I started up the Surface Scan and had it running. It was finding many bad blocks. I left it to run over night. This morning it had Quit (crashed?). There was no Report. It said nothing had been run to report on. Hmm… I started up the Surface Scan again this morning. Again, many bad blocks were being found and listed. I left it running checking on it every few minutes. The last time I checked it had run 3+ hours. It had processed about 1,500,000,000,000 blocks out of the 5,000,000,000,000 or so being checked. I came in the last time and the application had again Quite/Crashed. There is no Report logged. It said no test had been run. I am disappointed that the app could not test my hard drive.

I believe my next step to reformat my 3TB hard drive.

Memory Test anomaly

I have created a TechTool Pro 10 Protogo with Mac OS X Basic profile on a Lexar 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive.
I run TechTool Pro 10 Memory Test on my 13-inch mid-2013 MacBook Air (Memory Size = 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3) from that flash drive. The result ("Error") is shown in the attachment.

But there are anomalies:
1) the Error result comes just after determining the free memory size (about 5.6 GB) and BEFORE any tests run.
2) the accompanying notification is "Memory Test Passed".
3) TechTool Pro 9 is installed on the computer in question, and when I run Memory Test from that application, the result is that all tests show as passed (with approximately the same amount of free memory being tested).

I used TechTool 10 Pro (on another computer) to test the flash drive Partition Map, Volume Structures, and Surface scan. No errors / failures were indicated.

I can't decide on a reasonable interpretation of all this. Might there be a flaw in TechTool Pro 10?

TTpro 10: Battery Check, will it work on iPhone 4s?

I have TechTool Pro 10, running on an iMac w/MacOS 12.13.5 and iTunes 12.7.5.9. I would like to check my old iPhone 4s (iOS 9.3.5) battery. I have "trusted" my iMac via my iPhone 4s but it is not showing in iTunes or on my desktop. TTpro is able to run a battery test on my iPad Air iOS 11.4. I tried Googling an answer but no luck. Is TTpro 10 compatible with iOS version 9 devices? I couldn't find any mention in the TTpro manual. I have also ran "System Information" and checked the USB connection. It shows my iPhone 4s is connected (also, it is charging the phone). Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

NVRAM or SMC Reset boots into eDrive

I have just purchased a 2016 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. I immediately upgraded the machine to High Sierra after the initial setup. I did not use Migration Assistant.
I installed TechTool Pro 10 and created an eDrive.

The problem I am having now is that when I follow Apple's procedures for resetting NVRAM and the SMC controller the MacBook Pro always boots into eDrive. I do not have a firmware password active.

I have no idea why this is happening and do not know if the resets have occurred. Any ideas?

I have 3 systems - an iMac, a Mac Mini, and an MacPro.all 3 are behind my Linksys Router. I have installed TechTool Pro 10.01 on each.

When I look at the opening screen, the Location information for both the iMac and MacPro both show up as United States.
However, the Mac Mini has a Location of China.

When I launch TTP 10.1, the main screen comes up -- but when I try to launch a test -- any test, I get a pop-up that TT is trying to install some helper app, I click cancel and nothing happens.

This is apparently related to checking the "don't ask me again boxes on the pop-ups.

TT 10.1 constatntly tries to install the protection app on quit.

Just downloaded TechTool 10 and I'm wondering if I need to remove and rebuild the existing eDrive. I've also upgraded to High Sierra recently.

Volume Rebuild taking days...

I am using my 1/year old iMac to run Volume Rebuild on my 2 year old MacBook Pro using TechTool Pro 9. (I previously tried running TechTool Pro 9 from an external drive, but after 48 hours gave up. So now I have this new set up.)

I am running at 71 hours right now... is this okay??? I'd say 99.9999% of the time, it's been running on FSRoot Tree". Green light next to FSRoot Tree is flashing and I can hear my MacBook running.

I just don't want to be doing anything that may damage it. Your thoughts appreciated.

Expected Behavior of TechTool Pro Remote on iOS 11.4.1

I installed TTP 10.0.1 on my laptop (15" 2017 MBP running MacOS 10.13.5). Looking around at the menus, I found the option to sync results to iCloud. When I clicked it, I got a message that TechTool Pro Remote needed to be installed on the i device and both the laptop and device needed to be signed into the same iCloud account. So, I installed TTP Remote on my iPhone (5S, iOS 11.4.1). It seemed to run fine the first time I opened it, though no reports showed up, even after I ran some additional tests on my laptop.

However, every time since that first time, the TTP Remote app will begin to open, show the opening splash screen and then the phone will jump back to the phone's home screen. TTP Remote is still running in the background — I can double-tap the home button and it's in the scrolling apps that are open. However, even when I try to bring the app to the front, I get the splash screen and then the phone's home screen.

I've tried quitting and restarting the app, rebooting my phone, uninstalling and then reinstalling the TTP Remote app — all with the same result.

Is that what is supposed to happen?

Licensing Question

I purchased two copies of TechTools 10 for my tech and myself. We work in a company that has a few used macs, 50-100 lets say.

Am I able to uninstall and reinstall on a different client to perform a diagnostics on a machine, remove it if everything is healthy, and re-install on another machine on my workbench or am I expected to purchase a license for every single computer even if I don't intend to leave the software on past an initial diagnostic /repair.

Please advise. Excited to use the tool.

TTP 10.0.1, MacOS 10.13.6. Interpreting battery check

Although TTP reports my MBP battery as "passed", there are also reported errors that I don't understand. It makes no difference if the computer is plugged in or not (although the order in which the failures are listed does differ). The most recent test says:

Externally Indicated Failure, Safety Over-Voltage, Cell Imbalance, Discharge FET

What do these failures mean and how concerned should I be?

This is now the third version of TechTool Pro that will not send email alerts.

I have the feature set up correctly, but when I choose to send a test email it never gets past "Connecting to host".

I am 100% certain I have the correct settings, and since it never "connects to host" it seems clear that my login information is not the issue.

Fixing Volume Rebuild 10.0.2 Damage to MacOS

Hi Guys ...

I have been working with the Lab Guys in sorting out this TTP software bug in the Volume Rebuild.

On my iMac (27 inch late 2013 on OS 10.13.6) the Volume Rebuild tool when it discovered that Apple OS was not cooperating it did not revert to the original Desktop Folder that it was working on to either repair or make more efficient. So the damage was done and seated into the OS.

I tried every repair and diagnostic I could think of including doing a Command + R cold start up so I could use the Apple Disk Utility .. and it did find a line code to repair in the first 3 seconds of operation (it was to fast for me to eyeball what line code it fixed) .. but that did not fix the Finder Preferences being damage and I was into a cascading failure.

Eventually .. my monitor screen would go Black ... basically fall asleep ... and the System Preferences were basically turned off .. no hot corners ... and the appearance was off and could now be adjusted.

So I did a cold start up with Command + R keys down and did another Download of the Mac OS (I am loath to do this as TTP is so much faster - hence me working the problem with due diligence).

Three hours later .. I had the Mac OS restored to factory settings ... and all is well.

Now ... when I can calendar up another 10 minutes to 'Test' the Volume Rebuild and get some more information to the Lab Guys .. in juxtaposition to the over night repair to the Mac OS as I sleep .. the I can get them some more information.

The Problem with the Code .. is that it is usually 3 or 5 things that are making the issue (TTP failure to work the Rebuild successfully) manifest.

So the Lab Guys have their work cut out for them .. this is not so easy to cut code.

Anyhow ... for all the people who have ran into the problem unique to their situation as it is not identical to mine in the hardware / software configuration.

Give a think to doing the Command + R cold start up ... after that is successful ... then shut down .. power off for 90 seconds .. then cold start up again with Command + Option + P + R keys down to Zap the PRAM.

I am convinced your Mac OS will be back to normal operating conditions .. so you can start up your edrive or External Hard Drive if you are lucky enough to have a bootable OS courtesy of Carbon Copy Cloner (there are other programs that do that same sort of thing to be of assistance to you - the Moderator here will educated you on those if you have an interest).

Then I can Optimize the Primary Start up hard drive in the iMac I use all the time to do business.

BTW .. I optimize with TTP at least once a day .. often times two or three a day ... as the internet does that much damage (err .. scattering data ducks about as the ducks work so much better in a straight line ) ... to the software hard drive.

Hope this is a help.

My very warmest regards.
