Using TechTool on an encrypted drive.

Running MacOS 10.13.4 on a mid-2012 MBP and TechTool repeatedly crashes when I try to use TT 9.6.1 on the drive in this machine. Works fine on another machine and external drives and will even run on this drive, it just stops when I try to perform maintenance of this drive. The only thing different about this drive is that it is encrypted. Does encryption cause problems?

Thanks.

EDIT: Just tried running it again and during an attempted Volume Rebuild it stops at Precheck and quits.

SMART Test on Apple Mac

Running TechToolPro v9.6.1 on an Apple Mac Pro running OSX High Sierra v10.13.4. Five internal hard drives and five external hard drives in a SATA enclosure. One of my internal hard drives, a 500GB SSD, presents a WARNING when running the SMART Check Test. The two red bars just barely short of “Fail” are “Reallocated Sectors Count (5)” and “Reallocation Even Count (196)”. According to the TTP User Manual this indicates a pending drive failure; though this drive is not that old, just a few years. This SSD gets backed up automatically to an external hard drive nightly and that back up SSD also reports a similar SMART Warning - but I wonder if the back up is simply mimicking the state of the main drive (?). Can someone tell me if this WARNING notice is critical, and that I should replace the SSD? Thanks. Mark W. (I have attached a screen shot of the test report on the SSD).

Version 9.6.1 - Cannot create eDrive on Mac Pro with OS10.13.4 Build 17E199 ?

With 10.13.3 I was previously able to create eDrive on the startup volume and then restart the eDrive to rebuild directory and optimize files on the startup volume

With recent new version 10.13.4 installed I removed the existing eDrive.
But when selecting "Create eDrive" to create with 10.13.4, the partitioning stalls and a "Failed" error prompt is given.

What is up with that? What to do?

I Have Techtool Pro 9.5.3, Should I Keep Maintenance 2.1.8 (El Capitan)?

Techtool Pro 9 has applications like Partition Repair, System Maintenance, Cache Rebuild and Disk Permissions which makes it more well-rounded than most maintenance/repair appss.

I also haveTitanium Software's Maintenance app installed though I don't think I need it any longer, since TT99 appears to do the bulk of the maintenance operations, along with its ability to repair volume structures and create an Edrive (among other tasks).

Do you agree? I have no intention of getting rid of TTP9. The question is whether or not I keep Maintenance.

Thanks.

More like FREEZING the startup volume permanently, ammiright????

This has happened several times to me. I've waited 20 minutes plus and no change. I have had to force restart my computer. Anyone else experiencing this? Seems like there should be an abort or cancel option. Hitting "OK" does not work.

ver: 9.6.2 - no window at all

Hi
9.6.1 and all previous versions were fine; run the app and up pops a window with your gauges in it.
Updated to 9.6.2 and I get no window; no gauges.
Uninstalled; used Find any File to remove all TTP and Micromat files. Deleted app and downloaded and reinstalled. Same thing - no window. Reboot. Poweroff. Did everything I could think of as a programmer with 40+ years experience. Nothing works.
Reinstalled 9.6.1. Works fine. Updated from within 9.6.1 to 9.6.2. No window.
Deleted 9.6.2 and reinstalled 9.6.1. That version works.

I saw a similar thing about 3 y ears ago, when one app simply quit opening any windows. Had to toss it out. Is there something in the OS, some list of windows, that is buried deep and causing this? Care to share what code changes you made between 9.6.1 and 0.6.2 that might affect your main window opening?

My OS: 10.13.4 iMac w/32 GB RAM. No other problems.

Create eDrive on an external drive with NTFS partition (no Boot Camp!)

TechTool Pro Version 9.6.2 (3820-d765554)
MacOS 10.13.4 (17E199)

I have an external USB hard disk, where I'd like to host an eDrive partition. This disk has 3 partitions:
- Windows NTFS partition as a data storage, but there is NO Windows installed there
- HFS+ partition
- a separate HFS+ partition for eDrive

But if I want to place eDrive to that partition as destination I get message Cannot create eDrive on the selected volume. Drives with both Boot Camp and OSX 10.8 or later are not supported.

eDrive compatibility

Let's say I create an eDrive on a portable hard disk using High Sierra system.
Then I boot with it a computer that has broken El Capitan (it means an older MacOS version) partition on board, which I'd like to recover.
Will it be pissible regarding OS versions compatibility?

Fixing Disk full error

For some reason I cannot boot to El Capitan anymore. Trying to fix it I used command fsck_hfs -fy in Single User Mode but with no avail, it stops at
CreateNewBTree returned -34
Disk full error
Although I have at least 10GB space on the El Capitan volume.
My question is before I buy a 32GB flash drive, create eDrive etc - can actually TechTool Pro solve that kind of problems? Can it help where fsck_hfs fails?

TechTool Pro 9.6.2 and NewerTech battery

So, I installed a new NewerTech battery into my 13-inch MacBook Pro unibody and, just for the sake of argument, ran the TechTool battery test. The Battery Check Results show Passed with a condition of Normal BUT, under failures, it lists Cell Imbalance, Discharge FET, Safety Over-Voltage, Externally Indicated Failure.

I thought that was kind of odd (the internal Apple indicators are that the battery is fine also) so I tested another identical computer with a slightly older NewerTech battery and it shows exactly the same results.

So, what's up with that?

Thanks.

Vers 9.6.2 Volume cloning failing (APFS?)

$

I am running MacOS 10.13.4 (17E199) on a MacBook Pro (2016) and I updated TTP to version 9.6.2 (build 3820) this morning.

Volume cloning is failing for me; (brief spinning ball then crash). The input volume is the boot volume that was updated to APFS during Apple's upgrade to 10.13.4. Tried duplicate cloning and file sync cloning and both failed; the output volume was HFS+ so I used Disc Utility to erase it and format as APFS and it still failed. I tried disk image cloning (with the output file on a 2TB USB HFS+ volume) and that failed too.

In version 9.6.1, cloning of my APFS boot volume didn't work (which was not a surprise) but the release notes assert that 9.6.2 has been corrected in this area.

Thank for your assistance.

Fan speed-up after update to 9.6.2

After updating to TechTool Pro 9.6.2, whenever I exit the application, my fan speeds up to essentially full speed. I can reboot and the problem resolves. 100% consistent and repeatable.

Fan testing within the app shows no errors. Temperature monitor shows no issues as well. Updated my SSD firmware with no change in behavior.

I have a hunch it is related to my SSD, as when I installed that a couple of years ago, my fans ran crazy fast until the next MacOS update. I was able to use a third party app to slow them down during that time period. I can probably use another app to control it for now but would like to have it function correctly without it.

Ideas?

TTP 9.6.2 configuration to eliminate stupidity?

$

How do I configure TTP 9.6.2 so that the stupidity it displays in the evaluation of files is fixed? I either need to tell it to quit checking jpg files (or even gif files), or fix it so it knows the validity of the file. It has found 49,567 jpg files on my computer that supposedly are "File is not a valid image file." They are. They open fine. They display fine. No program has any problems with them (except TTP).

So how can I get the program to completely ignore these files?

Volume Rebuild problem - TTP 9.6.2 + Sierra + 28Gb RAM

I think I found a problem with an external drive I use to make CCC copies of my main drive.
First time I attempted to do a Volume Rebuild, I had a red ball during Prechecking Structures.
Let it go through till it offered me to replace the structures with NO red differences, all green.
So I decided to proceed... after 44 hours, I thought it was far too long and aborted the process.
Of course the drive was unreadable... had to re-format and re make a CCC copy.
Now I'm trying to do a Volume Rebuild on this newly formatted drive, and newly copy of my main drive using CCC, and it is taking 17 hours to do Acquiring Directory Structures. (have a green ball on Prechecking Structures)
I have not documented all steps with screenshots or other info, but it looks like TTP is having trouble dealing with a CCC copy of an operating disk.
Any clues?

TTP update 9.2

Hello I received an email stating there was an update, I tried but it told me it didn't work .
I am on El Captain and last time you stated I could get the 9.1 without trouble so I installed it but now it won't update.

It's ok I'll stick to what I got as I used to with other computers.

I understand you are working now to support the new apple structure which I don't have and won't instal that new os for new machines.

Thank you
