Volume Rebuild crashing

I'm trying to rescue an internal SSD on a MBP. It is a 1TB OWC SSD kit - OWCSSDAB2MB10K.

I have 2 SuperDuper clones of the SSD, one a day old, the other slightly older.

I have booted from these clones, and tried running the Volume Rebuild, but it doesn't let me, saying that TechTools Pro is running from the volume (i suspect as the internal drive is a clone)

So, i tried creating a techtools to go, which booted, then gave me the same error.

I tried connecting via Target Disk mode, and running TechTools Pro from another mac. I got the same message.

So, i created an eDrive and ran from there. TechToolsPro crashes after starting.

Any ideas?

Running TechTool 9.2.6 on OSX 10.13.4
TechTool Protection panel says I have 150.26GB free space whereas Apple says I have 406.87GB free space?

I tried to upload screenshots but the forum didn't recognise them

Any ideas?

ver: 9.6.2 - no window at all

Hi
9.6.1 and all previous versions were fine; run the app and up pops a window with your gauges in it.
Updated to 9.6.2 and I get no window; no gauges.
Uninstalled; used Find any File to remove all TTP and Micromat files. Deleted app and downloaded and reinstalled. Same thing - no window. Reboot. Poweroff. Did everything I could think of as a programmer with 40+ years experience. Nothing works.
Reinstalled 9.6.1. Works fine. Updated from within 9.6.1 to 9.6.2. No window.
Deleted 9.6.2 and reinstalled 9.6.1. That version works.

I saw a similar thing about 3 y ears ago, when one app simply quit opening any windows. Had to toss it out. Is there something in the OS, some list of windows, that is buried deep and causing this? Care to share what code changes you made between 9.6.1 and 0.6.2 that might affect your main window opening?

My OS: 10.13.4 iMac w/32 GB RAM. No other problems.

Hello Micromat,

I have to say I'm disappointed by your SMART Results page. Your fancy graphic tells me nothing!
Please report the actual numbers the HDD returns to Tech Tool.

Thank you.

TTPro 9.6.2 eDrive not showing up as Start Up Drive option

I am not sure when this may have surfaced as I haven't tried to restart into eDrive in a while. Today I removed the eDrive and then recreated it with the latest High Sierra version (10.13.4). I wanted to do a Volume Rebuild via eDrive having the latest macOS. Choosing "Restart eDrive" brings up the System Preferences/Startup Disk pane. There is no eDrive there. There was prior to recreating the eDrive. When I launched TTPro it came up with a dialog to update TTPro, so I did. After the update I went to eDrive and chose "Restart eDrive" - the above preference pane opened showing the eDrive was a version behind on the macOS, so I did the above. Now there is no eDrive there in the Startup Disk pane. The eDrive can mount and does show on the desktop, but restarting with the Option key depressed doesn't show it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

TTPro 9.6.2 cannot select Directory Backup or Trash History on my SSD boot volume.

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro and macOS 10.13.4. I was told during 9.5 that TTP didn't work on SSDs, but I figured 9.6.2 would work. Does these still not work on my hardware?

I can select both on my external platter disk, however.

Possible to deactivate my license on a mac I no longer have?

Hi,

I used one of my 2 licenses (TechTool Pro 9.6.1) on a Mac that I was checking to see whether or not to buy. I ended up not buying it, and returned it to the owner. But realized I forgot to uninstall TechTool.

Is there anyway I can deactivate it from my own Mac or from here?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ever since I upgraded to 1.1.8 Checkmate has everything ending because 'backupd' is running. It is not running and Time Machine is Off.

Issues with Directory Backup failing to run

I have TTP 9.6.2 installed on an iMac running 10.12.6 (Sierra). I am running Tech Tool Protection with Directory Backup selected. It was seamlessly executing & storing until 4 days ago. Today I opened the storage folder and there were no updates just 3 files from days ago. Opened System Preferences & confirmed last backup date and that the feature was selected. Came back a few hours later and the auto backup now resumed. If the Protection feature is not automatically executing as programed then I have no fall back protection. Whats wrong here? How can the program be fixed to insure reliable Directory archive & warning if not operating properly?

E Drive creation fails

Hi. I am running TTP 9.6.2 on OSX 10.13.4. When I try to create an E Drive on my laptop, the creation fails, saying that I do not have enough free space, and citing Time Machine snapshots as a possible source of the problem. According to the Finder I have 330 GB of free space on the internal drive (a 1 TB Apple SSD).

Any suggestions?

Michael

Vers 9.6.2 Volume cloning failing (APFS?)

I am running MacOS 10.13.4 (17E199) on a MacBook Pro (2016) and I updated TTP to version 9.6.2 (build 3820) this morning.

Volume cloning is failing for me; (brief spinning ball then crash). The input volume is the boot volume that was updated to APFS during Apple's upgrade to 10.13.4. Tried duplicate cloning and file sync cloning and both failed; the output volume was HFS+ so I used Disc Utility to erase it and format as APFS and it still failed. I tried disk image cloning (with the output file on a 2TB USB HFS+ volume) and that failed too.

In version 9.6.1, cloning of my APFS boot volume didn't work (which was not a surprise) but the release notes assert that 9.6.2 has been corrected in this area.

Thank for your assistance.

Geoff

TT Protection not showing/running for TTP9.6

Since installing TTP 9.6, I cannot see TT Protection running in System Preferences. I am using macOS 10.12.6 since I keep seeing problems with High Sierra. When I open TT Protection, it says protection features are disabled and inactive. When I click on run, the message changes to protection features are active but the list is blank. If I restart the list shows nothing running again. Screen captures are attached. (actually I am not sure if they are attached. I clicked on add files and selected them but nothing shows in the attachments panel below)

Thanks

Upgrade to V9.6.3 Has Slowed Down Startups on both of my Macs

Yesterday, I upgraded to TTPro V9.6.3 for both of my Macs (late 2012 Mac Mini with 8 gig of Ram and a 256 gig Samsung Pro 840 SSD, and mid 2017 13" MacBook Air with 8 gig of Ram and a 252 gig SSD), and the start up process has become some what slower. I have plenty of free space on both of my Macs (over 65%), and I keep both machines "lean, mean, and clean". I am running OS 10.13.4 on both of them. (The TTPro Upgrade includes both the "primary" application itself and the eDrive).

Any clues/ideas, etc. as to why this would be the case?

Free space remaining alert for volume Recovery

$

TechTool Pro 9.6.3 posted a TechTool Protection Alert warning me that "The volume 'Recovery' has 12% free space remaining." It also advised me that "The Volume Usage threshold for this volume is configured in the TechTool Protection system preference."

This alert appears to reflect a bug in TechTool Pro. The volume "Recovery" mentioned in the alert is presumably the recovery volume on my startup drive. The startup volume is named "MP", not "Recovery". "Recovery" does NOT appear in the TechTool Pro system preference, contrary to the alert. Furthermore, while the startup volume "MP" does appear there, its Free Space Warning Threshold is set to 10%, so it should not be generating an alert if 12% free space remains. Because the system Preference doesn't list that volume, I cannot get rid of the warning alert because I cannot set a Free Space Warning Threshold for the volume "Recovery". I am not willing to uncheck the volume "MP" for a Free Space Warning because I want to know when it gets below 10% (and I don't know that unchecking "MP" would remove the alert for volume "Recovery", anyway, since TTP thinks, correctly, that "Recovery" is a different volume).

The startup drive is an internal APFS SSD in my Mac Pro (Late 2013) running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4).

Volume Rebuild taking a very long time

Hello,

I have an external USB 2.0 500 GB hard drive that has some minor problems with the directory (reported by Disk Utility). The drive has approximately 170 GB available. My computer is a Macintosh Quicksilver G4 (867 MHz).

I started Volume Rebuild about 4 days ago, and it's still at the step "Rebuilding Directory Structures" - is it possible that it should be taking so long to rebuild the directory structures? There were no errors reported during the first two steps.

Thanks in advance for any advice / help.

Internal system not showing in TechTool restart window, so I can't choose it.

I have a MacBook Pro late 2016. The screen was flickering sometimes, so I did a PRAM reset. When the mac retarted, it restarted using the TechTool eDrive. I want to restart it using the internal drive. But when I quit TechTool and get the Startup Disk window, only the eDrive is showing. How can I boot using my internal disk?
